Accelerated Progression

Evidently when a sport comes along that is similar to an existing sport something amazing happens, I dubbed it “accelerated progression”, and wakeskating seems to be the paramount example of this. I feel that given the life of the sport as opposed to other extreme sports specifically, wakeskating has shown a ridiculous amount of advancement. Both in technical difficulty, and in the magnitude in which the tricks are thrown, wakeskating has changed so much in so little time.

This is not to slight the difficulty of any other extreme sports (to each his own, all sports are equally respected by myself except fruit booting). The point I am making here is that when the idea of the wakeskate came about, the trick foundation built from both wakeboarding and skateboarding was already on the table and ripe for the picking. This allowed for the two to be meshed and tricks to be replicated, yet made new on the new board. In a short time we have seen the first 180, all the way to backside 540s, and enough flip tricks to blow our mind’s for days. The advancement of the other wake sports throughout recent history made wakeskating possible, so we have to respect them all.

Extreme sports sports are mainstream today because of those who chose to go out on a limb and take risks in the recent past. New sports are sure to evolve out of what we have today, and this “Accelerated Progression” will undoubtedly have the right circumstances to occur again and again.
